                DESCENDANTS of JOSEPH COOK and MINDWELL
           HYDE OF NEWTON, MA & THEIR CHILDREN WHO SETTLED IN
                       BRATTLEBORO, VERMONT

1. JOSEPH1 COOK,born say 1700, died Jan 1748/49 in Newton, Middlesex Co., MA.1 He married on 10 Nov 1726 in Newton, Middlesex Co., MA2, MINDWELL HYDE, born 5 Apr 1703 in Newton, Middlesex Co., MA3; died 13 or 19 Feb 1786, AE 83 in Newton, Middlesex Co., MA, daughter of ELEAZER HYDE and HANNAH HYDE.4 
 
	The parentage of JOSEPH COOK is not known.  It has been said that Joseph was the son of Samuel & Abigail (Griggs) COOK of Cambridge, MA.  They had a son Joseph baptized in Cambridge 23 May 1697.  I have a copy of the settlement of Samuel COOK's estate dated 30 Apr. 1733 and only two sons Samuel & Philip are mentioned .5 He could be the son of Andrew & Phebe (Lovewell) COOKE of Dunstable,
MA but this has not been proven.
 	 
	Joseph COOK was  of Weston , MA before removing to Newton.6
As a resident of Newton he received money from the town poor stock in 1731 and 1735.7
 
	MINDWELL COOK received one half of the movables that belonged to her mother as her portion of her father Eleazer HYDE's estate.8

	4	iii	HANNAH2 COOK, born 5 Mar 1732/33 in Newton, Middlesex Co., MA; died 31 Dec 1748 in Newton, Middlesex Co., MA14.
 
+	5	iv	OLIVER2 COOK, born 1 Jun 1735 in Newton, Middlesex Co., MA. He married (1) BEULAH KNAPP. He married (2) LEAH WEBB. 
	6	v	SOLOMON2 COOK, born 16 Jul 1738 in Newton, Middlesex Co., MA. Solomon married KEZIA HOLTON 29 Nov. 1768 Sutton, MA15 Solomon was warned out of Sutton, MA 2 Nov. 1762.16  He may
have later settled in Brattleboro, VT.- 1810 Windham Co. cn,
Brattleboro 1 male & 1 female over age 45

	7	vi	THOMAS2 COOK, born 17 May 1740 in Newton, Middlesex Co., MA. Thomas, from Newton, with wife (not named)  warned out of Worcester on 2 Nov. 1762.17.  He is probably the Thomas COOK,
blacksmith who lived in Brattleboro, VT.

5. OLIVER2 COOK (JOSEPH1), born 1 Jun 1735 in Newton, Middlesex Co., MA; died 4 Jan 1813, AE 78, in Brattleboro, Windham Co., VT; buried  in Meetinghouse Cem,Brattleboro, VT18. He married (1) on 20 Jan 1757 in Newton, Middlesex Co., MA, BEULAH KNAPP, born 9 Jun 1736 in Newton, Middlesex Co., MA;19 died 26 Dec 1782 in Brattleboro, Windham Co., VT, (Gs. op cit, AE 47) daughter of DANIEL KNAPP and
SARAH (---).  He married (2)  LEAH WEBB, born 8 Mar 1738 in Springfield, Hampden Co., MA20; christened 28 May 1738 in lst Church, Springfield, Hampden Co., MA21, daughter of CORNELIUS WEBB and MARY OSBORN. 

	Oliver COOK resided in Newton & Sutton, Massachusetts before removing to Brattleboro, VT.  On 14 May 1765 Oliver COOK wife Beulah and children  Joseph, Hannah & Beulah COOK from Worcester were warned out of Sutton, MA.22
  	 
	By June of 1765 Oliver and his family were still in Sutton, MA where three of their children were baptized.
 	 
	The Cook Family removed from Sutton, MA to Brattleboro, VT  by 1771 when Oliver's name appears on the Census of Cumberland County, NY now Windham County Vermont..23
 	 
	In 1771 Oliver COOK served as commissioner for laying out highways and as an assessor in Brattleboro.  On 15 Mar 1781 he was appointed horse brander at a town meeting.  In 1782 he lived in the Fifth School District of the town24 

 	 He was a member of the First Congregational Church where he signed an agreement to call Rev. REEVES to the Church.25  The early records of this church were destroyed by fire and Mr. HELYER, a present day church member found no other record of Oliver Cook of the few records that survive.
 	 
	On 4 Jan. 1776 Oliver was appointed a First Lt. in the Cumberland County Militia for  the Town of Brattleboro.26By 6th Feb. this same year he was  promoted to rank of captain.27 
 	 
	In the Year 1779 Oliver COOK, blacksmith  purchased land in Brattleboro from Samuel DICKERMAN.  The deed was witnessed by William CUNE & William SUMMER.28  In a deed dated 19 Jan. 1787 Oliver COOK,gentleman, purchased more land from DICKERMAN, deed witnessed by Stephen NASH & Frederick BAKER.29 On 28 May 1793 Oliver sold land to Josiah ARMS,deed witnessed by Ephraim NASH & Rutherford HAYES.30  In June of 1793 Capt. Oliver COOK sold land to Oliver COOK Jr., Joseph COOK & Ephraim COOK.These three deeds were witnessed by Ephraim
NASH & Gardner CHANDLER.31 The latter Cooks were probably Oliver's sons.  All of the land transactions involved land located in Brattleboro, VT.
 	 
	The listing for Oliver Cook, Town of Brattleboro, Windham County, Vermont in the 1790 & 1800 census are as follows:

	Leah WEBB owned the covenant at the First Church of Springfield, Mass on 8 Feb. 1756.32
 	 
	Leah's death is not recorded in the Vermont Vital Records.  She is buried in an unknown location perhaps with her second husband Oliver Cook who is buried in Meetinghouse Cemetery in Brattleboro, VT or her first husband Josiah Ward II, burial place unknown.

	13	vi	JOSEPH3 COOK, born bef. 1765.
 
	14	vii	EPHRAIM3 COOK, died before 23 Sept. 1812 in Brattleboro, Windham Co., VT. He married  MARY (---).   On 23 Sept. 1812 Mary COOK was appointed administrator for the estate of her husband EPHRAIM COOK with LEWIS REDFIELD as surety.  David MILLER
and Enos LAMB took an inventory and the estate was turned over to
the widow.41  This Ephraim COOK was probably Oliver's son.
