First Generation
1. JAMES COVELL was born say 1625. He died before 19 Aug 1690 in Martha's Vinyard, Cape Cod, MA.when on 19 Aug 1690 administration of his estate was given to his son Philip and he was then called late deceased.1
James Covell was one of the early settlers of Martha's Vinyard, Massachusett.2 He received a grant of 10 acres of land on 27 March 1651 on the Meshackett Path which is where he built a house and continued to live until his death.3 He was admitted as a proprietor of a half share of land in 1660 and submitted to the Mayhew
Government the next year.4 He was elected drummer of the train band in 1661 and served as a juror in 1659 & 1677.5 His name is often found in the land records.6
James may have been the James Covey a resident of Braintree, Mass in 1639/40 but this is supposition.7
His wife's name is not known.

Ezra Covell died of smallpox 12 Dec. 1737 and administration of his

Second Generation
2. PHILIP COVELL (JAMES).
PHILIP married ELIZABETH ATWOOD on 16 Nov 1688 in Malden, MA.10
They had the following children:11

3. JAMES COVELL (JAMES) was born about 1660. He died before 1749.
James Covell jr lived in Meshacket Path, Martha's Vinyard, Mass. On 23 May 1694 he sold 20 acres of land his father had been granted in 1687 to Hannah Daggett.12 James died between 1734 & 1749.13 JAMES married ABIGAIL SMITH?.14

5. JOSEPH I COVELL (JAMES) was born say 1662/1665 in Martha's Vinyard, Cape Cod, MA. He died in Apr 1733 in Killingly, Windham Co., CT.16
Joseph Covell sr lived in Chatham, Woburn & Charlestown, Ma. He removed to Killingly, CT prior to 5 Nov. 1714 when with others, he was granted 150 acres of land in Killingly.17 On 6 Dec. 1714 Joseph Sr deeded two pieces of this land to his son Joseph Jr "in consideration of the love and good will that I have and bare my said
son Joseph Covell Jr of Killingly." The deed was signed by both Joseph sr & Alice Covell.18 On 9 June 1733, Joseph Covell, Andrew Philips & Elizabeth his wife, John Grover & Alice his wife, all of Killingly, Conn. & David Ross & Sarah his wife of Gloucester, RI quit-claimed their rights in their father's land to Stephen
Covell.19 On 25 June 1733 Joseph & Stephen Covell quit claimed their rights in their father's land to their sisters Elizabeth Philips, Alice Grover & Sarah Ross. Alice Covell, widow of Joseph Covell sr gave up her rights of dower at this time.20
The inventory of Joseph Covell sr's estate was dated April of 1733 and was taken by Henry Groom, Isaac Cutler & Ebenezer Bateman. Joseph's estate was appraised at L947-16-6 and the document mentions a house and barn which Stephen Covell claims to be his own estate.21
JOSEPH I married ALICE PALMER, daughter of JOHN PALMER and ELIZABETH
ALGER, on 27 Feb 1685 in Woburn, Middlesex Co., MA.22 Alice was born say 1666. She died after 25 Jun 1733.
The will of Elizabeth Palmer of Boston, Mass., mother of Alice (Palmer) Covell, is dated 6 Dec. 1717 & mentions, among others, her daughter Alice Covell and son-in-law Joseph Covell.23

ELIZABETH married ANDREW PHILLIPS on 17 Aug 1706 in Charlestown, Suffolk Co., MA27 ANDREW , son of ANDREW PHILLIPS & SARAH SMITH, was born in Charlestown, MA 23 July 1687.28 He died 11 June 1755, AE 78 in Killingly, Ct.29 Andrew married secondly MARY LOCK in Killingly, CT 23 Feb. 1736.30
