Abiel Lamb Sr. was a soldier in Capt. Johnson's Company in the Great Swamp fight of
9 Dec. 1675. At the age of 29 he took part in King Phillip's War. Three Indian tribes
formed a confederation attacking 13 towns burning houses and killing about 600
inhabitants. It was a time of terror for the colonists. About 1000 soldiers and 150
Mohican warriors made a surprise attack on the Narragansetts which had about 600
wigwams that stood in a swamp surrounded by palisades - the only entrance was over a
log foot bridge. So desperate was the defense that the new Englanders had to fire the
wigwams. Abiel Lamb acquitted himself well. His superior officer in a letter describing
the battle says "I hasted to round them in getting close behind it (the wigwams)
expecting my men had followed; but all that both of us had was not above five men,
one of them, my corporal (Abiel Lamb) whose strength outstrips me."47

Abiel Lamb from Roxbury is on two lists of Capt. Johnson's Company one dated
30 Nov. 1675 receiving L00:19:02 in wages.48 The other list is dated 10 Dec. 1675.49
On March 24 1675 he is on a list of Capt. Nicholas Manning receiving wages of
L04:10:00 50

Abiel Lamb II of Oxford was a claimant for the land his father was allotted as a result
of Abiel 's service in King Philip’s War .63

Abiel Lamb joined the church in Framingham, MA in 1710 64

From Framingham, where most of his children were born, Abiel moved to Oxford, MA
where he was one of the original grantees owning Lot #25.65 On 8 July 1713 his name
appears on a list of grantees.66 Abiel apparently had his troubles with the local Indians
according to tradition. They supposedly had a grudge against him for some unknown
reason. At times "they lurked around his house "with evil intent" and once fired a shot
at him while he was away from home 67

In the Year 1722 Abiel served in the office of constable in Oxford.68

In Jan. 1714 John Towne and Abiel Lamb were chosen to judge the worth of an orchard
sold by the town to Ebenezer Hopkins.69

In 1720 Abiel Lamb, John Towne, Samuel Barton, and Joseph Wiley all members of
other churches met together and declared they would do all they could do to found and
build a Church of Christ in Oxford.70

Abiel for love and affection gave his son Ebenezer land in Oxford. On 1 Jan. 1732 Abiel
sold one-half of his land to his son Abiel Jr.71

On 22 Apr 1717 Abiel Lamb of Oxford purchased 100 acres of land in Killingly,
CT for the sum of 40 pounds from Joseph Covell. On 13 Dec. 1718 Abiel Lamb (3) of
Killingly sold this land to John Brown for the sum of L170 - deed signed by
Abiel & Hannah Lamb.72 It is probable that Abiel II never lived in Killingly.
