Oct 1609 in Titchfield, Hampshire, England 103 He was buried on 9 Feb 1686/1687 in
Rehoboth, Bristol Co., MA.104

William Sabin was in Rehoboth, MA as early as 1643 when his name was on a
list of the first purchasers of land. On 3 July 1644 his name appears on a
covenant105

William Sabin is often mentioned in the Plymouth Colony Records. He was
propounded for freeman on 4 June 1645.106 At the General Court 29 June 1652, a Mr.
Colleghan complained, in writing, about some speeches William had made.107 At a
Court held at Plymouth on 6 Mar. 1648/49 William Sabin, the miller of Rehoboth, was
presented for short changing his customers by two quarts of corn per bushel. On 6 June
1649 the miller was cleared of this charge by jury verdict.108 On 13 June 1660
William testified in a case involving some Quakers.109 Sabin was fined L02:10:00 at
a Plymouth General Court Meeting of March 1665.110 On 5 June 1671 he was one of
the persons appointed by the Court to view the damage done to the Indians by the horses
and hoggs of the English.111

William served in such town offices as constable and deputy. He often
served on various committees and he was a member of the Grand Jury.112 William was
foreman of the jury that brought in the guilty verdict against three Indians for the
murder of John Sassamon in 1675. Two of the Indians were hung for this crime and
this event precipitated the beginning of King Philip's war.113 On 28 June 1653 William
Sabin, among others, was appointed a representative in settling the status of the
Rehoboth lands lying within the bounds of the Sowams purchase.114 On 22 June 1658
Sabin was one of 49 men who drew lots of meadow land in the north purchase of
Rehoboth. He drew one share 115 On 26 June 1676 William contributed L15:05:08 to
help defray the costs of King Philip's War .116

On 13 June 1677 William Sabine of Rehoboth deeded to Philip Walker of
Rehoboth & Richard Arnold of Providence, RI all interest "in the place where
the old mill stood viz: William Sabins mill, both trench and stream from the
bridge commonly called the Hill Bridge, and the Falls" in Rehoboth - WTN: Noah
Newman, William Buckland & Daniel Smith.117

William may have married as first wife a Wright (Mary) perhaps daughter of Richard
Wright of Rehoboth but this is controversial Robert Charles Anderson in The Great
Migration Begins (Vol. 3:2073) in his sketch about Richard Wright does credit Richard
with a daughter Mary but says that Richard married a widow Sabin, possibly mother
