13. JOHN Sr. PARMENTER (WILLIAM, GEORGE Jr.) was born about 1588 in England. He died on 1 May 1671, AE 83 “formerly Deacon at Sudbury” in Roxbury, Suffolk Co., MA1
JOHN PARMENTER came to New England about 1638/39 and settled in Sudbury, MA. On 4 Sept. 1639 JOHN Sr. was appointed a commissioner to layout land in Sudbury.2 JOHN Sr. was a Freeman in Sudbury on 13 May 1640 and was a selectman there in 1641 and 1660.3 He was a deacon on the Sudbury Church in 1658.4
JOHN Sr. removed to Roxbury, MA in 1660 and in 1670 he sold several parcels of land in Sudbury to Thomas RICE of Marlborough, MA.5
JOHN PARMENTER's Last Will & Testament is dated 25 Mar 1671 and was proved 15 July 1671. It names his wife Annis, daughter WOODS, son-in-law JOHN WOODS, grandson JOHN PARMENTER , cousin CHEEVERS of Boston and cousin STIBBINS. Capt ISAAC JOHNSON of Roxbury, grandson JOHN
PARMENTER were executors of the estate.6

ANNIS PARMENTER' Will is dated 1 Nov. 1672 and was probated 25 Nov. 1683. ANNIS's son JOHN CHANDLER received the estate left by her first husband. He was to pay JOHN DANE and to her sons THOMAS & WILLIAM CHANDLER certain sums of money. Her daughters HANNAH ABBOTT & SARAH CLEAVES were also mentioned. Cousin ELIZABETH DENISON, ANNA STEBBINS and Sister WISE were to aid in the division of the estate. Sons THOMAS and JOHN CHANDLER were executors of the estate.15

19. JOHN Jr. PARMENTER (JOHN Sr., WILLIAM, GEORGE Jr.) was born say 1612 in England. He died 12 Apr 1666 in Sudbury, Middlesex Co., MA.19
JOHN PARMENTER Jr., an early proprietor of Sudbury, MA, was granted a four acre houselot there in 1639. He took the freeman's oath in Sudbury on 10th May 1642/43.20
In 1653/54 it is recorded "John PARMENTER Sr. shall keep a houe of common entertainment and that the Court shall be moved on his behalf to grant a license to him." In 1655 the Colonial Court and Ecclesiastical Council met to settle various disputes. This meeting took place at the PARMENTER TAVERN. JOHN Jr. expended the sum of 17-5-12 in entertainment costs and the Court ordered that this
expense be bourne by the Town. The PARMENTER TAVERN was the first ordinary or tavern in Sudbury. It was located at the South Street side of the town which is now the town of Wayland and it stood on the houelot assigned to JOHN Jr. in the land allotment of 1639 21
In 1653 the Town of Sudbury appointed JOHN JR along with EDMUND
GOODENOW and JOHN STONE "to see to the barrel of powder, to the trial of it, to the heading of it up again, and to take some course for the safe bestowing of it." 22 In the Year 1642 JOHN Jr. was a member of a commission to arrange building of a cart bridge.23
Among the Garrison Houses in Sudbury named for their early occupants and used during the Indian Wars was the Parmenter Garrison House. It was one story high and had a room at each end. Supposedly when the Wayside Inn made famous by Longfellow's poem was built, the workman went to this house at night for safety. The house was owned at one time by ABEL PARMENTER .24
On 26 Feb. 1665 Sergeant Parmenter of Sudbury sued Christopher Bannister of Marlborough for “trespess for defiling his daughter (Mary) and getting her with child.”25
John jr's children were all named in his will probated 1660.The inventory of the estate was taken by PHILEMON WHALE, JOHN HAINES & JOHN GROUT on 19 June 1666. JOHN's estate amounted to 310-15-00. His house and lands were appraised at 120 pounds.26

On 16 Jan. 1693/94 Mary Burck, relict widow of Richard Burck of Sudbury, John Burck & Abrahm Holeman of Sudbury, and Richard Burck of Stow gave bond for the estate of RICHARD BURK deceased. Mary and John Burck were administrators of the estate. Richard’s sons Richard Jr., John, Joseph, Jonas & Thomas Burck and daughter Mary Parmenter were all named in settlement of the estate.39

GEORGE PARMENTER Sr. is mentioned in the will of DIGORY SARGENT "then
I,the said DIGORY SARGENT, do leave these things above written (real & personal estate) unto GEORGE PARMENTER of Sudbury to be disposed of as he shall see good to bring up the said DIGORY SARGENT's child (Martha) and if in case that this child should die likewise then I do freely give my house and land with all the goods above mentioned unto GEORGE PARMENTER forever, and to his heirs.......". The document was dated March the 17th day 1696. During the summer of 1702 SARGENT
was killed in an Indian raid along with his wife. Their children were captured and sent to Canada. DIGORY's daughter MARTHA was later redeemed from the French53
In the Year 1706/07 GEORGE Sr. signed a petition to divide the town of
Sudbury into two precincts, both of which to have a Church.54
GEORGE PARMENTER Sr. purchased 103 acres of land in Framingham, MA from JOSEPH BUCKMASTER 25 Apr. 1709. On 19 Feb. 1723/4 GEORGE gave part of this parcel to his sons JOHN & AMOS.55
George Parmenter & his wife were guilty of fornication. In Dec 1679 their sentences were respited until their parents appeared “to answer why they denied them the consummation of their marriage for so many months after they were in order thereto.”56
