                        First Generation

	1.	JOHN SLATER (name originally Slafter) was born say 1660. He died Aft 1739 And Bef 1754.

John SLATER  was of Lynn, MA in the Years 1711 -  1717
when three of his children were married there.  John died after 1739 when he transferred his estate in Willington, CT  to his two sons Moses and Benjamin.1

The name of John's wife is not known.

After leaving Lynn, MA John SLATER resided in the towns of Mansfield and Willington, CT where he served in many town offices including the post of grand juryman in Willington in the Year 1727.2

The birth of John Slafter's children have not been recorded.  The will of Benjamin Slater, John's son, states that after the decease of Benjamin's wife, the estate is to be  divided among his "nine brothers and sisters" 3

John's children as listed below are probably not in correct order of their births.

	8	M	vii.   MOSES SLATER died about 1778 in Ellington, Tolland Co., CT.18 MOSES married JEMIMA SCRIPTRUE on 13 May 1743.19

	10	M	ix.    BENJAMIN SLATER died about 1760 in Tolland, Tolland Co., CT. An inventory was taken of Benjamin's estate on 22 Sept. 1760 by Ichobod GRIGS & David LATHROP.  One of the items in inventory was a "parcill of  land and the buildings on it inventoried at L60-00-0-022

BENJAMIN married BETHIA EATON on 11 Nov 1744 in Willington, CT.23

                        Second Generation

	6.	JOSEPH I SLATER (JOHN) was born about 1698. He died about 1787 in Killingly, Windham Co., CT.

Joseph SLATER resided in the towns of Tolland, Willington. Mansfield &
Killingly all in the State of Connecticut.  In May of 1718, Joseph with 24 others including his brother Anthony SLAFTER, signed a petition presented to the General Assembly, relative to Coventry lands.  This involved a controversy about the  boundary lines between the two towns.24 

The following is from the Slafter Memorial, "On the 24th of September 1724,he purchased a tract of land in Mansfield, CT adjoining Samuel SLAFTER's land on the west, and lying on both sides of the Great Cedar Swamp Brook.  He sold this property about two years afterward and removed to Killingly, CT where he purchased land in 1735 adjoining land already in his possession.  Additions were made in 1742
& 1745.  He sold an estate in Tolland in 1764; the deed bears the signature of "Joseph SLAFTER".

The following is a deed of sale in which Joseph's heirs sold his real estate in Killingly, CT.

"Know all men by these presents that I John SLATER, Silas SLATER, Abial SLATER, William TAYLOR & Sarah his wife of Foster in the County of Providence and State of Rhode Island and Esther GROVER widow woman of Little Hoosick in the State of Massachusetts and Joseph and John SLATER of Guilford in the State of Vermont and Abner SLATER and Hannah SLATER of Halifax in sd State of Vermont being heirs to the estate of Joseph SLATER late of Killingly deceased do for and in consideration of the sum of ten pounds ___ received to our full satisfaction of Jeremiah SLATER of Killingly in the County of Windham, State of Conn. remise, release and forever quit claim all of our right, title, interest, claim and demand in and unto the estate both real and personal of said Joseph SLATER late of Killingly deceased to have and to hold the above remised and released premises unto the said Jeremiah SLATER and unto his heirs and assigns forever and we ......................this 16th day of June A.D. 1788 signed and  delivered in presents of Samuel TWOGOOD, Abijah BAKER, Abraham SLATER, Samuel  TWOGOOD, Abijah BAKER, Silas SLATER, John SLATER and Wm. 25 Joseph's four children signed this deed.  The other signers mentioned plus Sarah TAYLOR are Joseph's grandchildren, the children of his son Joseph deceased.

JOSEPH I married ESTHER say 1720. Nothing further known of Esther except she was probably deceased before 16 June 1778 as she was not mentioned in the settlement of her husband's estate.

	13	F	ii.  ESTHER SLATER was born on 26 Jul 1723 in Willington, Tolland Co., CT. She died after 1788. ESTHER married TIMOTHY GROVER.

	14	M	iii.   JOHN SLATER was born about 1725. He died on 8 Feb 1821 in FOSTER, 27 Providence Co., RI. JOHN married ELIZABETH HANDELL.28

	15	M	iv.    ABRAHAM SLATER was born on 7 Oct 1731 in Killingly, Windham Co., CT29. He died about 1795 in Killingly, Windham Co.30 ABRAHAM married HANNAH ADAMS.

                       Third Generation

	12.	JOSEPH sr SLATER (JOSEPH I, JOHN) was born about 1721. He died on 13 Aug 1775 in Scituate, Providence Co., RI.

Joseph SLATER was a freeman in Scituate, Rhode Island on 3 Apr. 174531

Joseph Slater (Slaughter) was living in Scituate, RI in 1774 when the census was taken. His household consisted of 3 males above 16, 3 females above 16 and 1 female under 16 for a total  of 7 persons in the household 32 

Joseph SLATER wrote his Last will & Testament on 12 Aug. 1775 and was a resident of Scituate, RI.  He mentions his eldest son Abner SLATER who received land; sons  Joseph SLATER, Abial SLATER also received land; well-beloved wife Hannah SLATER  received one third of homestead, household goods and livestock; son Silas SLATER received
the other two thirds  of the homestead and was to pay out a dowry to his sisters Hannah SLATER & Sarah SLATER when they reached the age of twenty-one years; son John SLATER received livestock; son Joseph Slater Jr was the executor and the will was witnessed by Elisha SMITH, Jonathan DAY and Zachariah HARNDEN (Note: Probate date cut off copy sent to me from Rhode Island)33 

On 4 October 1775, Abner SLATER, Joseph SLATER, John SLATER and Silas
SLATER, Hannah & Sarah SLATER, all of Scituate, RI quit-claimed land to their beloved brother Abial SLATER which consisted of land that our "honored father Joseph SLATER gave to him part by deed and the other by will." - document witnessed by Eber MOFFITT, Moses MOFFITT & William BIGELOW.  The deed was signed by Abner, Joseph, John, Silas & Hannah SLATER & Sarah & William TAYLOR.34

JOSEPH married HANNAH COVELL, daughter of JOSEPH II COVELL and HANNAH LAMB, about 1742. HANNAH was bapt on 30 Sep 1722 in Killingly, Windham Co.35  She died on 17 Jan 1786 in FOSTER, Providence Co., RI.36

A private in Capt. Comfort Starr's Co., Guilford, VT.38 

In 1774 census of RI Abner was living in Scituate, RI with 6 persons in the  household 1 male above 16, 3 males under 16, 1 female above 16 and l female  under 16.39 

ABNER married SARAH RUSSELL about 1765.40

	18	M	iii.  ABIAL SLATER was born on 15 Sep 1747 in Scituate, Providence Co., RI. He died about 1813.41

	19	M	iv.   SILAS SLATER was born on 26 Nov 1754 in Scituate, Providence Co., RI. He died on 19 Aug 1825.43

A Soldier of the Revolution - Private in Providence Co. RI - Continental Line - received pension 6 Sept. 1823.44 

SILAS married BEULAH ADAMS.45

                      Fourth Generation

	17.	JOSEPH SLATER (JOSEPH Sr, JOSEPH I, JOHN) was born on 10 Oct 1745 in Scituate, Providence Co., RI. He died on 19 Jan 1831, ae 82 years in Preston, Chenango Co., NY and was buried in Foster Cem., Preston, NY46

Joseph SLATER resided in Foster, RI until c1775 when he removed to
Guilford, Windham Co., VT where he remained until c1814 when he again uprooted his family  and moved to Preston, Chenango Co., New York.  He is probably the Captain Joseph SLATER  who settled in Preston on the farm east of Stead's farm.47 

Joseph served in the Revolutionary War as a private in Capt. Comfort
STARR's Company in 1780 48  The SlafterMemorial, Page 51 states that Joseph declined to receive a pension for his services saying that his services were freely given and he was not in need of aid.  I could not prove this statement but assume that Rev. Slafter was told
this by a Slater descendent prior to 1869 the publication date of his work.

There is no probate record for Joseph at the Chenango County Surrogate
Court located in Norwich, NY.

ELINOR EWING. LOVINIA was born on 9 Jan 1787 in Halifax, Vt.54 She died 18 Oct 1863 Ae 76-9-9 in Ellington, Ny and was buried in Ellington Cem.55. No children

	20.	JOHN SLATER (JOSEPH Sr, JOSEPH I, JOHN) was born about 1756. He died on 14 Feb 1815 in Guilford, Windham Co., VT and was buried in Carpenter Cem., Guilford, VT.56

A Soldier of the Revolution - In Capt. Comfort STARR's Company, Guilford, VT 1780.57.One of three men detatched from Comfort Starr's 
company, paid for 6 days and 47 miles travel.58 On 23 Sept. 1784 he was probably the  John Slanter who served on a committee re dividing the town of Guilford by a center line to  make two bridges.59John was appointed a surveyor of highways on 7 Mar 1785.60 

In 1785 Ezra Pratt deeded 8 acres to John Slater with a saw mill.Slater deeded this to his son  John jr in 1814 61  In 1788 John purchased the south half of Lot #158 and sold it to Aaron  Culver in 1804.62

ZILPHA was born about 1801. She died 22 May 1848, AE 47 in Hounsfield, Ny and was buried in Musk Cem.68 JOSEPH also married (2) SARAH SMITH. SARAH was buried Hounsfield, Ny in Musk Cem. (no Dates).69

	22.	SARAH SLATER (JOSEPH Sr, JOSEPH I, JOHN) died in Aug 1808 in Burlington, Otsego Co.,NY70 SARAH married WILLIAM TAYLOR, son of THOMAS TAYLOR who died 20 Mar 1802 Burlington, NY.71

On 17 Jan. 1783 George Baker of Foster sold land to William Taylor of Foster a house and lot  in Killingly and Foster for l shilling. This included the residence of Widow Hannah Slater.  The  deed excepted the widow's third share of the house .On the same day George Baker of Foster  sold to William Taylor of Foster 15 acres in Foster for 40 silver dollars. The property was partially bounded by widow Hannah Slater's property.  On 7 Apr 1783 William Taylor of Foster  sold to George Baker of Foster 38 acres in Foster for 90 pounds that was partially bounded by  widow Hannah Slater's property.72

He died on 28 Apr 1841 in Aurora, ILL.93 JONATHAN married (1) ABIGAIL HOLMES, daughter of THOMAS HOLMES and TAMAR HARRIS, on 17 Jan 1804.94 ABIGAIL was born on 5 Jan 1784 in Chesterfield, Nh.95 She died on 15 Apr 1828 in Champlain, NY.96

	31.	JOSEPH SLATER (JOSEPH, JOSEPH Sr, JOSEPH I, JOHN) was born on 7 May 1778 in Guilford, Windham Co., VT. He died on 31 Jul 1857 in Preston, Chenango Co., NY.99

The Joseph Slater Bible Record says that Joseph jr was born in Guilford, VT, County of Wyndham and experienced religion at the age of 17 years - moved to Preston, NY in the Year 1805.

JOSEPH married RELIEF FARNSWORTH, daughter of THOMAS FARNSWORTH and
RELIEF HOLDEN, on 4 Mar 1802 in Guilford, VT.100 RELIEF was born on 2 Sep 1779 in Westminster, Ma.101 She died on 15 Mar 1859 in Preston, NY.102

She died on 25 Feb 1844 in Newark Valley, , NY and was buried in Hope Cem., Newark Valley, NY.104 LOIS married ROYAL MOSES, son of SAMUEL MOSES and LYDIA BALLOU, on 23 Feb 1800. ROYAL was born on 20 Apr 1780. He died on 27 Jan 1856 in Newark Valley, NY and was buried in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley, NY.105

	33.	ISRAEL SLATER (JOSEPH, JOSEPH Sr, JOSEPH I, JOHN) was born on 7 May 1782 in Guilford, Windham Co., VT. He died on 5 Jan 1865 in Bainbridge, Chenango Co., NY.107 ISRAEL married SUSANNAH GAGE, daughter of JABESH GAGE and SUSANNAH, on 2 Feb 1808. SUSANNAH died on 5 Sep 1854.108

Th will of Benjamin M. Slater of Bainbridge, NY  mentions his
father Israel SLATER and mother Susannah SLATER; sisters Charlotte & Caroline SLATER.  The executor was Wm. J. WILSON and the document witnessed by C.W. CORBIN, Stephen WILDER & Harry WOOD. It was dated 20 May 1846  and was probated 24 Sept. 1846.109

	35.	CHLOE SLATER (JOSEPH, JOSEPH sr, JOSEPH I, JOHN) was born on 17 Jun 1784 in Guilford, Windham Co., VT. She died on 15 May 1864.111 CHLOE married ELIHU HAYES, son of JEREMIAH HAYES and MABEL PHELPS, on 12 Jan 1806. ELIHU was born on 5 Oct 1783.112 He died on 5 Aug 1853 in Keesville, NY.113

	36.	MOSES SLATER (JOSEPH, JOSEPH sr, JOSEPH I, JOHN) was born on 8 Oct 1787 in Guilford, Windham Co., VT. He died on 16 Aug 1836 in McDonough, Chenango Co., NY and was buried in Steere Cem., McDonough, NY.115

Moses Slater's will is dated 10 Aug. 1836 and mentions wife Permelia SLATER; daughters Lois CUMMINGS and Delema NICHOLSON; son Nelson SLATER who was executor.  The document was witnessed by Stafford SMITH of Preston & Arthur A. STEER of McDonough and Perlina DARLING.  The will states that Moses resided in the Town of McDonough, Chenango Co. NY and the will was probated 2 Jan. 1837.116

MOSES married PERMELIA FISHER on 14 Feb 1805.117 PERMELIA was born on 30 Sep 1787. She died on 18 Sep 1855 in McDonough, Chenango Co., NY and was buried in Steere Cem., McDonough, NY.118
