Andrew Townsend was born c1654 according to his deposition in a court case
involving Ezekiel Needham's mare in 1678 when it was stated he was about 24
years old.36 Most printed genealogies have given Andrew’s birth year as c1644.
If the above year 1654 is correct, Andrew's mother must have been in her forties when
she gave birth to Andrew and probably was much younger than her husband Thomas
Townsend who supposedly was born in 1594 according to tradition and 1601 according
to deposition made in 1661.

Andrew Townsend was impressed for service in King Philip's War.37 He was paid the
sum of 02-14-00 in 1675 for war service 38 He served under Capt. Joseph Gardiner for

sufficient property was made a freeman by the Massachusetts General Court.42

Andrew Townsend died intestate. His brother Samuel Townsend of Boston
and Samuel Johnson of Lynn were appointed executors of his estate. Kinsman
Daniel Mansfield was appointed guardian of Andrew's three children Elizabeth,
Andrew & Daniel. The guardian for Abigail & David was Andrew's brother Samuel
Towsend. 43
